School Holiday Camps

September 2015 School Holiday Survivor Camp Review

The September school holiday survivor camp was held on 22-24 September 2015. There were 53 students who took part. During the camp, the students fished the timber region throughout the far upper reaches. Wind played a factor during the first day and subsequently, the bite changed. Fishing had been consistent around the timber in behind Camp Lake Fire but the windy conditions meant the bass moved to slightly deeper water to the timber perpendicular to Camp Lake Fire’s lakeside camping area. Large numbers of fish were caught by the students in this region. The catch comprised mainly of Australian bass but there were a few monster eel-tailed catfish caught, as well as the odd spangled perch. All the fish were caught by using live shrimp as bait and all fish were released. The students were also involved in rock climbing, canoeing, archery, orienteering and open fire cooking. It was a great group of students and an enjoyable three days.
